After prolonged use, soap water residue, fabric softener, chemicals and minerals can build up in the drain-tubes, detergent tray, filter and outer part of the cage. These are ideal places for harmful bacteria to breed and proliferate. Cleaning the machine regularly can remove these bacteria from possibly mixing with your laundry.
How to clean your washing machine
i) Simply add 2 cups of white vinegar (apple cidar vinegar also ok) to the detergent tray or, if there is no tray, pour directly into the cage. Run the hot water cycle for about 5 to 7 minutes by setting the timer to this time length. Drain out the dirty water. This cycle serves to remove any built-up mildew inside the machine.
ii) Rinse with hot water by running the hot water cycle again for 5 to 7 minutes without adding anything else.
iii) Apply one quarter part chlorine bleach using a damp cloth and wipe the inside of the cage as well as the detergent tray thoroughly.
Your washing machine should be quite clean, free of bacteria and mildew, if the above steps are followed properly. Happy cleaning the machine!
