Ever wondered how to clean your white sneakers apart from putting them in the wash like normal laundry? Here are some ideas you can try without damaging your much-loved shoes.

Use stain repellants

A good way to start is to spray stain repellant onto your sneakers. Then give your shoes a good wipe with water every time they got dirty, or every fortnight or so. This will prevent stains from easily setting and hardening on your shoes in the first place. You can get stain repellant from major retailers such as Mitre10, Rebel Sport or the Warehouse etc.

Use Magic Eraser

If your shoes still got very dirty, then Magic Eraser is great for turning your shoes to looking new again. Simply wet the Magic Eraser with water, and scrub the whole shoes including the soles repeatedly. Again, you can get the Magic Eraser in major stores such as Briscoes, the Warehouse and TradeMe etc.

Clean the shoe laces as well

You can soak your white shoe laces in Vanish nappy san (half scoop) for at least two hours, then scrub them with a gentle brush and it should remove most stains.

For canvas sneakers...

If your sneakers are canvas sneakers, then try mixing baking soda with 50% diluted hydrogen peroxide until you get a paste. You should be able to get hydrogen peroxide from household hardware stores or pharmacies. Scrub off all excess dirt from the shoes first, then apply the paste and let it sit for a while until the paste hardens. Then shake off the paste, and scrub off gently any residue paste and you should see noticeable whiteness to your sneakers.

Happy cleaning your white sneakers!
